After learning so much about myself and my kindergartener during this last school year, I’ve decided to take a more year-round approach to our homeschool routine. With our kindergarten coursework officially completed, I decided to share with you what our summer is going to look like, with continued learning.
Spanish With Talkbox.mom
I’ve spent an exhaustive several weeks learning about the many options for teaching your child Spanish at home. I do not speak Spanish myself, but my husband does. It is wildly exciting for me to help bring more of that into our home. For this summer, I decided to lean into the talkbox.mom subscription boxes. Talk Box differs by going straight to speaking in small day-to-day phrases rather than beginning with learning basic vocabulary. With pronunciation guides, you pick phrases you use every day, like “Go to the car.” The app teaches you how to correctly pronounce the phrase, and it’s up to you to use it in your everyday life. You say the phrase and ask your little one to repeat it back. We already are having a lot of fun learning and using more Spanish in our home together.

Charlottes Web Read Aloud With Ruby Reads
We tried (with not very much success) to do read alouds over the last year. My little one has a wondering mind and I sympathize with that. With a lot of tools and ideas of how to help your child listen to books out loud I landed on this reading poster from Ruby Reads. This poster is massive and includes activities for deeper understanding as you read together as a family. The Charlottes Web poster includes areas to learn more about spider facts and their anatomy, a place to record new words and their meanings and a place to draw character portraits. I hang the poster in our living area with poster putty so we can display his hard work and keep the conversation going on our new read.
Handwriting With Zaner-Bloser
Handwriting has been our big challenge this last year. So we are spending a little extra time practicing the prober ways to write our letters. This summer we are flying thru the Kindergarten Zaner-Bloser Handwriting resource. I appreciate that every page has a QR code that properly demonstrates how the letters need to be drawn because that’s really what we’ve been needing help on.
Draw With Mom
My Kindergartener has really taken to drawing over the last year. I ordered this Draw With Mom book so we can spend time together doing something that he really loves. The drawing prompts are sometimes silly and we often have a really good laugh when we get to sit down and draw together.
